Comparing Monroe and West Monroe when you rent
By Braud Properties · Last updated October 5, 2026 · How we write and check guides
People often say “Monroe” for both sides of the Ouachita River, but West Monroe is its own city with its own government and services. That matters when you set up utilities, look up local rules, or report a problem.
Braud Properties’ published communities are listed under Monroe addresses. If you are comparing them with options across the river, use this guide to make a fair comparison.
Two cities, two sets of services
In the City of Monroe, residential water service starts through Utility Billing at 1401 Stubbs Avenue (318-329-2220). West Monroe addresses go through the City of West Monroe instead. Before you compare costs, find out which city the address is in and which providers serve it.
Electric service in much of the area is provided by Entergy Louisiana, but always confirm the provider for the exact address before you schedule service.
- Look up the exact address to confirm which city it is in.
- Ask the landlord which utilities are included and which you pay.
- Compare deposits for each provider, not just the rent.
Commute and crossing the river
Bridges connect the two cities, and drive times can change at rush hour. If you work on one side and are looking at rentals on the other, drive the route at your real commute time before you decide.
Things to do on both sides
The Monroe-West Monroe Convention & Visitors Bureau covers events and attractions in both cities. Its calendar is the best place to see what is happening this month, from markets to festivals.
